Help Wanted: “Rapid Reaction Team” Members

The public hearings on these bills are going to be very important. Our legislators’ votes are swayed by the very presence of people who care enough to show up at these public hearings, be they for or against the issues.

Because legislative public hearings are usually held on weekday afternoons, and are often called on short notice, only people who have the connections to know about about these hearings and who can arrange to attend such hearings on short notice, actually show up.

Who are those people who show up? Right now, they are mostly anti-gun and anti-sportsman supporters. Why? Because those groups have organized “Rapid Reaction Teams” who can be notified quickly to mobilize large numbers of their members to attend the public hearings.

Federated RI Sportsman Club wants to level the playing field. They are trying to organize Rapid Response Teams so that all all of us— all the shooting enthusiasts, hunters, and sportsmen in Rhode Island— will be able to make our voices heard on these important legislative issues.

If you are retired, or self employed, or have a flexible schedule, we’d like you to sign up to become part of these teams. If there are members of your family who may be available to go the the public hearings and represent our interests, please ask them if they would consider becoming part of the teams, too. Their presence might carry even more weight with the legislators precisely because they are not themselves members of any club. And as you can imagine, the opinions of moms and grandmothers can really make a difference to the legislators and the news media!

No one will be asked to attend every public hearing, nor will they be asked to speak unless they wish to. But we want to be able to make our presence felt and our voices heard. FRISC is asking all the Clubs in the state to recruit as many volunteers as they can, so that when there is a public hearing, 50 or 100 people will show up in support of our views so that our legislators will know that: we are paying attention, we are going to defend our 2nd amendment rights, and, most important of all, that we VOTE for legislator who support US!
